Battery storage for moving electricity to when your home needs it.
A battery stores spare solar generation from the day and releases it in the evening, when most households use more. Solar and battery installations are also currently zero-rated for VAT, a relief that runs until 31 March 2027.
Free and no obligation. Payment options available on qualifying routes.
Inverter and battery, Hampshire
A battery can be specified with new solar or added to panels you already own.
With new panels, array, inverter and battery are designed as one system. On an existing system a battery can usually be added without touching the panels once the inverter has been checked, and with an older string inverter an AC-coupled battery that sits alongside it may be the better route.
Worth raising if an EV or heat pump is on the way, since both lift evening demand, when stored electricity does the most good.
Battery size follows the household.
Four Hampshire homes, four set-ups. More panels does not automatically mean a larger battery, and a small battery is not a lesser design. Each one matches how that household uses power.
A home occupied all evening needs more storage than one that is empty until six. We size from your own usage and from what you plan to add, not from a stock recommendation.
Using off-peak electricity.
On a time-of-use tariff the battery can charge overnight at the low rate and cover the home when prices peak. Some can also send stored power back to the grid under a Smart Export Guarantee tariff. Fitting a battery does not affect MCS certification or export eligibility.
The right size shifts with the rates you pay, so your tariff is checked first.
If the power goes off.
Most home batteries do not run the house in an outage unless the system is configured for it, which depends on battery, inverter and wiring. Tell us early if backup matters and the proposal will spell out what is included.
Available brands include Duracell, Fox ESS and Growatt, and most come with an app for watching what is stored and used. Placement is usually a garage, utility room or outbuilding, and some units are rated for outdoors. We confirm the spot at survey.
Build the system around the home, then structure the payment.
Once the design is settled, compare paying outright with the finance routes currently available, including qualifying no-upfront-cost routes and selected short-term 0% offers. A battery can sit inside the same finance route as a solar system where qualifying options exist, or be priced separately if you are adding one to existing panels.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Hampshire Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
What homeowners ask about batteries.
Is a battery worth adding?
That turns on your daily pattern. If most of your electricity is used after the panels have stopped producing, a battery keeps daytime surplus that would otherwise be exported for little. Your proposal tests it against your own usage.
Can storage use off-peak tariffs?
Yes, on a time-of-use tariff it can charge overnight at the cheaper rate and cover the more expensive hours. The sums are usually better alongside panels, and we check them against your tariff first.
How long does a home battery last?
Most carry a warranty of around ten years or a set number of charge cycles, whichever is reached first, and many keep working beyond it. The exact terms for your chosen unit are in the proposal.
Does a battery keep the lights on in a power cut?
Not by default. Backup needs a battery, inverter and wiring configured for it, so say so at the start if it matters to you.

Build your home energy plan
Tell us about your home, how you use electricity and what may change next. We'll use it to design a plan around that demand.
Free and no obligation. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
You are not committing to anything by asking. If the home looks like a fit, someone from the team may be in touch to clear up a few details before your plan is drawn up.
