Solar-aware EV charging for Hampshire homes.
A home charger on its own circuit, planned with any solar and battery so the car can run on your own generation when possible.
Free and no obligation. Payment options available on qualifying routes.
Home EV charging, ready overnight
Let the car use your own generation first.
Paired with the right inverter, a smart charger can take your spare solar before it touches the grid. If panels or a battery are already installed, we look at how a charger would sit alongside them before suggesting a model.
Plenty of households fit a charger on its own and add solar later, or the other way round. Either way, it helps to design the first step with the second in mind.
Fitted to how you actually charge.
Tethered
Has its cable attached, so you just plug in. The simplest option for most driveways.
Untethered
A socket only, so you bring your own lead. Neater on the wall and fine for more than one car.
Solar-aware
Uses your panels' output first and only then draws from the grid.
Cheaper hours as well as spare solar.
A smart charger can be scheduled to draw from the grid in a cheaper overnight window on a time-of-use tariff, with solar topping the car up by day. If you commute into Southampton, Portsmouth or further afield, much of the charging is likely to happen overnight, so the two work together. How much it saves depends on your tariff, which we review with you.
What the grant covers today.
The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost of a home charger, up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible. We'll confirm what, if anything, applies to your situation as part of your proposal.
Payment options for the wider project, including qualifying no-upfront-cost routes, can be discussed when your proposal is prepared.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Hampshire Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
What the job includes.
Own circuit
A separate run from the consumer unit to the charger, cabling included.
Consumer unit
If it is full, the proposal says so and prices the extra work.
Cable route
A path from house to car that stays clear of any public footpath.
Parking
A driveway or private space within cable reach, confirmed at survey.
What drivers ask about home charging.
Can panels power the car?
Yes, with a suitable charger and inverter. A smart charger can be set to take spare solar only, so the car charges whenever the roof outproduces the home.
Should I design solar around a future EV?
If a car is likely within a few years, yes. It changes the best panel count and battery size, and means the charger can be added later without rework.
Can I fit a charger without solar?
Yes. The charger is a separate install, and a solar-aware model simply gets more out of panels if they are already on the roof.
What if I park on the street?
A home charger needs a driveway or private space within reach of a cable, so street parking usually points to public or workplace charging instead.

Build your home energy plan
Tell us about your home, how you use electricity and what may change next. We'll use it to design a plan around that demand.
Free and no obligation. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
You are not committing to anything by asking. If the home looks like a fit, someone from the team may be in touch to clear up a few details before your plan is drawn up.
